My Children's Love Languages

One of the talks I give on a regular basis for people to learn how to express love to their spouses, children & colleagues is "The 5 Languages of Love". They are Gifts, Touch, Time, Words of Affirmation & Acts of services. (Read more about it from Dr Gary Chapman's Book of the same name)

Megan's love language is Words of Affirmation.
She loves it when we take time to listen to her, show her undivided attention when she's sharing about how her day has been, what made her happy and what made her sad.
A word of encouragement like "Well done, my sweetheart!" and "I'm so proud of you, Megan" means more to her than presents or hugs and kisses.
Yesterday, she received a postcard from her dear friend Justin (5 y/o). Megan and Justin have played together for as long as they can remember! 3 weeks ago, he left for Melbourne with his family! Megan really misses him and has been asking "Is Justin back yet?" every few days! haha... So the postcard was such a sweet gesture. Her face lit up and as I read the words to her, I can tell that the words much to her. :)

As for Joejoe, his love language is definitely Touch. The first thing he does each morning when he wakes is to come to either me or Daddy, and ask for a cuddle. After that, it's almost like he's got enough energy for the day and off he goes in his boundless energy, looking for things to do and play with. When he's got an owie (his way of saying "Ouch"), my kisses become magic kisses cos a bruise somehow become more bearable after mommy's sayang-ed him.

I remember recently Alan and I went for our company retreat for 3 days 2 nites. This was the first time we were away from the kids - so you could say both parties suffered withdrawal symptoms!

They stayed with PorPor & GongGong. One morning, Joejoe woke up and strolled into the kitchen looking for PorPor. She asked him if he wanted milk & to go brush his teeth, obviously unaware that he was asking for a cuddle...

He broke down when he didn't get his energy-booster for the day and was beyond calming til GongGong hugged him and sayang-ed him. And he stopped. haha...

But kids are kids! Underlying all these, they still love little presents and surprises! :) Not too much difference from you and me actually!

Take care Everyone!
