My Son - Fearless Joe

Hi everyone!
A dear fren commented that we don't seem to be blogging on our son enough. Yup, so please allow us to introduce you to our son - Joseph. He really is one of a kind. I (Sally) remember him fondly as a sweet baby. I breastfed him for 9months. And as he grew older, I realised he had a sweet little habit of pausing between his feeds to look at me and smile. As if to say "thank you mommy", before he continues to drink his fill. This was one of the earliest memories I have of him as our darling son and one which I hold so close to my heart (esp when he drives me up the wall! haha) .

When he was a baby, he seemed like the quieter one. Or so we thot. We sometimes will look at him and imagine him to be telling his sister, "Megan, you're too noise! Keep quiet!" But looks like we may have spoken too soon!

Sometimes I (Alan) wonder if he is the result of my (Alan) love for Calvin and Hobbes... So many times he just cracked me up - so much so that I nearly fall off my chair. Other times, he will come up with the most unexpected thing to say or facial expression that will leave me speechless. haha.

Sometimes we call him "Fearless Joe"! Just the other day, we were at our parents and all of a sudden - Megan came running to us and said that Joe2 picked up a roach and threw it away! We were stunned! Next thing we saw, was the little hero strolling in from the toilet and we asked him if it was true. He replied as a matter of fact - "yeah! I saw the cockroach and I picked it up and throw it into the basin and wash my hands and wash it down". It's like = nah! no big deal! You should have seen Sally's face - it was an expression of aghast but pride! My son the hero!

His little idiosyncracies really just crack you up...

Why did we call him Joseph? What's our hope and our godly aspirations for him?

That he will grow up to be like the Joseph of the Old Testament - a man of integrity, of character. Yes, it's a rather archaic name but archaic or not, that's our prayer over him. Look around us and you will see the degradation of societal values. Things are turning upside down around us. And we pray that when he grows up, he will not be the norm. He will not just be going with the flow. He will grow up with the values of God, deeply embedded in his life, knowing what is right and what is wrong. He will be that beacon of light. He will one of integrity, one with a strong godly character.

In fact, his Chinese name also reflects that - One of outstanding integrity. So here you go! Our darling son Joseph Sim E Jae! :)
