The Race Track Birthday Cake

That's what our little boy requested from us to bake for his birthday this year. After our attempt with Megan's star, we decided to go for something more manageable, something we're more certain of the rate of success. haha... So we "copied" BeeLee's idea of Zach's cake (thanks again, Bee!) and made a track out of the shape of a numerical "5".

Except that this time, we didn't bake the cake! hee... We went to a neighbourhood cakery. Got three slabs of butter cakes and one big pandan cake. Alan cleverly pieced them together and we stuck them together with thick chocolate icing. Here it is! Clever?

The toys cars you see are actually Joseph's own cars. We told him to choose three nice ones, and we gave them a good scrub before putting them on the icing. And Daiso (one of my favourite shops!) had nice little wooden road signs (3 for $2) so they were on the cake too. And of course, we can't miss out the colourful mini M&Ms! Ta-Da!

The cake was a hit! We celebrated in school for him yesterday, everyone had second helpings. Altho some kids did wonder why some of them had yellow cake (butter) and others had green cake (pandan)! haha!
I must also add, that the cost of this race track cake, is only $14 (plus decos)! Much cheaper than the cakes of this size sold anywhere. So proud of ourselves! We shared with two teachers how we did the cake and they are also inspired to make one themselves! :D
