Term 1's over!

Megan's officially completed her first term in Primary One. :)

I'm glad to say that as of now, she is still enjoying herself. We wouldn't know what it would've been if she was in another school, but we never cease to thank God for this school, this class and Mdm Lim, her Form Teacher. Initially we were worried cos we didn't get the teacher we'd wanted... haha, yes, we heard of a very cool teacher in that school and prayed that she'd be Meg's teacher! But God knows better, as always. There's a slow-and-steady demeanour about Mdm Lim, she is one of the senior teachers of the school. And has been very systematic and structured in her teaching methods - good for someone like me! haha...

The school started a couple of years back to not use any texts or workbooks for English - instead, they teach from what they call "The Big Book". Wrongly influenced by other parents who'd gone ahead of me, I was feeling insecure as I can't go through with her what she was taught. The big books were used and kept in class. There was no way I could see what she was learning, except through the learning sheets she would bring home as homework. But it all worked out well. Megan enjoys learning via this method, and I think it might also work better for Joseph too - he is more of a aesthetic and visual learner. :)

She's coping well with Chinese too. Term One focussed mainly on the foundations of Hanyu Pinyin. She is able to grasp the different sounds and pitch and how to make up the words. She understands where to put the mark on which letter, and is kinda glad that she didn't have to learn any chinese characters but got Hanyu Pinyin for Ting Xie this whole term. :)

But of all the subjects, I must say she loves Math most. She is really quite speedy at the way she works out her answers. That is why problem sums sometimes frustrate her. She reads the question, she understands it, do a simple calculation (working), and knows the answer. But the system requires her to draw the models, colour the differences, do out the working, and write the final answer with a statement. haha...

Sidetrack: Did you know they now have stencils for them to draw their models with? We didn't have that in OUR time!!! :D

Here's the abridged version of our conversation with her teachers.

Feedback from Mdm Lim
Megan is a delightful, enthusiastic student and effective team leader. She is coping well and is noted to be enjoying her learning journey. She listens well in class and is able to be follow instructions clearly. She participates in activities and is not scared to ask questions in class. She is learning well in the various subjects but sometimes makes unneccesary careless mistakes which might be costly. Academically, if she keeps up her diligence, she is capable of being in the top band of her class.

Feedback from Mdm Tan (Mother Tongue Teacher)
Shi En enjoys chinese classes. She interacts confidently using Mandarin and is not adversed to the language. Her work shows that she has been coached at home and has potential to achieve more in this subject.

The first fruits of our labour! Thank you Lord for showing us that consistency and steadfastness in coaching and nurturing her is the key. We are beaming with pride. :) And will be gearing up for the new term (where the SAs will be coming)!

Hi Shirley, welcome to our blog. And thank you for your encouraging comment. :D Your name and your hubby's name sounds familiar... have we met in any church or SW context?

Hi Sally, I dun think we have met. We are not from Trinity but from Lighthouse. However, my husband works in Bethesda Counselling and Care centre as a social worker. For myself, i am currently working in New Life community services in Bukit Panjang. My husband's surname is pretty unique, I must admit.

Anyway, thanks for welcoming us to read. I have truly enjoyed reading it. You have inspired us lots through your posts, which is why we started our own blog too.

God bless !
