Joseph's Art Exhibition - My Favourite Things

Ok, it's not quite his art exhibition alone, it's an annual exhibition organised by the Art School he goes to - RUS Art Studio. But for the proud parents that we are, it might as well have been our son's exhibition. haha... sorry, unashamedly buay pai seh here.

He's got only two pieces up in the entire exhibition, out of the, say, 80 over art pieces showcased by the many students (from 4 years of age onwards). There were many many breathtaking pieces. Some were straight to the point, there were also others that required you to think what message the artist wanted to put across. And as the theme this year was "My Favourite Things", we had glimpses of what these artist loved!

Our son painted his biggest acrylic painting ever. It took him 4 lessons to get it done. True to the theme, he had to choose something that is a favourite, not just something he knew how to draw or was easy to paint. To our surprise, he drew a Batmobile! A really cool one too. Because it is so huge and acrylic painting is truly not easy, I heard from Teacher Rus that he had wanted to give up on a couple of occasions (At this age, he still would very much prefer to work on things that give him instant gratification). She had to coax him by telling him that if he does his painting nicely, that would make mommy and daddy very happy. That apparently was the key for him to continue. The finished product was beautiful!

We are sooo proud of him. I had a peek of it each time I picked Joejoe up from art class. But Alan hadn't. We wanted to give him a surprise at the exhibition, occasionally tempting him by describing him how good it looks. haha...

When Alan walked into the exhibition hall, his eyes roamed along the walls for a Batmobile painting. He spotted it and his jaw dropped! What a kodak moment (but I didn't take a photo of that)! Priceless. Grandma and grandpa were there too, all surprised that their cheeky little grandson was capable of this piece of art!

He also made a Batman puppet in the craft section. :)

Our good friend's son - Justin's pieces were amazing too! Wow! Check them out! Little artists at work indeed!

On top of that, I just would like to make mention, that Rus volunteers with CCSS by teaching the children from our Student's Care Centres art lessons complimentarily. These kids would probably never have the opportunity for art lessons, and imagine what gems we would've missed from them! Their work were meticulous, creative, colourful and happy (sorry, not an art critic, dunno what other adjectives to use! haha). The kids were also there at the 1st day of the exhibition. Imagine their little faces, shining with pride and joy, seeing their masterpieces framed and hung on the walls of a gallery. :) Such joy!

I know Rus' art classes schedules are really hot, and some friends have tried to enrol their children from our recommendation and have had to wait a few terms to get a space. Praise God for pouring His blessings on this sister-in-Christ, and her humble and cosy little art studio. The works are far more than just those that are done by paint and crayons. Many little ones have picked up confidence, belonging and recognition through these weekly lessons... I know my little Joseph has! :)
